My Story
As a child and young adult I never had a real weight problem, I kept myself fairly fit and healthy. As I went into adulthood I became more interested in my fitness and started weight training three to four days a week.
When I found out that I was pregnant with my first child, I stopped all exercise straight away, thinking it would harm my unborn child (now I am more knowledgeable about health and fitness I know this is so untrue!).
With lack of exercise and eating for England nine months later I had gained a huge 4 stone, which I could not pass off as baby weight. My toned body had now turned into a large wobbly one!
As a new mum it took me some time to get used to my new lifestyle, I struggled to lose those excess stones and pounds. So I was someone shocked to find I was expecting again when my baby was only eight months old. Fortunately I was kept very busy looking after my first child and I only gained 2 ½ stone second time around.
It was not until I saw a photograph of myself a year after my second child was born, that I realised how big I had got. It was about time I did something about this, my local toddler group were raising funds for new books and a book trolley so I decided to do a sponsor slim in aid of this fund. With the support of the group and my family I managed to lose 4 ½ stone and get myself fit again and even did the London to Brighton bike ride……everyone was a winner!
I had a couple of years in my slimmer body before I became pregnant with my third child; it was so different this time. I only gained 2 ½ stone and was exercising up to a week before, a bit of a shock to the other swimmers in the pool. The weight came off fairly quickly but was still a struggle, looking after three children under the age of five was hard work and fitting in exercise was a challenge.
As a teacher I enjoyed working with children and seeing them develop and become more confident, this was very rewarding. I decided to change direction and train in exercise and fitness, so I could help adults it was still teaching but with big people rather than little ones!
I have been a Specialist fitness and Wellbeing professional for 21 years and have enjoyed every aspect of it, especially helping people lose excess weight. I have been there and can really understand what they are going through and how to solve their hurdles. Making this change in my career has enabled me to keep an eye on my own weight and fitness levels. I still gain weight easily and my clients keep me on my toes!
